Privacy policy

You can study with Roadquiz without an account, and then your answers stay on your device. Roadquiz collects pseudonymous usage statistics without cookies and crash reports without your answers, and its server keeps a random identifier for your app, the IP address and user agent of its session, and a log of your app's requests for 5 days. Only if you create an account does it keep your email address, your answers and your Tutor conversations, which it deletes after 30 days.

Who is responsible

Roadquiz is responsible for the personal data described on this page. For any question about it, or to use your rights, write to support@roadquiz.app.

Using the app without an account

Everything you do in the app is saved on your device: your answers, your mock exams, your review schedule and your settings. Without an account none of it is uploaded, apart from the pseudonymous usage statistics described below, and uninstalling the app removes it.

Review reminders are scheduled on your device. Roadquiz sends no push notifications.

What Roadquiz's server records

The first time the app starts with a connection, it creates an identifier on Roadquiz's server, so that a purchase works without an account. Its record holds no name or email address of yours: in place of a name it carries the word Anonymous, and in place of an email address one made up at random that cannot receive mail.

When the app gets that identifier, and each time you sign in, the server records with your session the IP address your app connects from and its user agent, a short text that names the software making the request. An IPv6 address is cut to its first half. Roadquiz keeps them until the session ends: when you sign out, when you sign in to an account, which ends the session the app had before, when the app uses the session after it has expired, or when you delete your account. A session the app never uses again is not deleted automatically; write to support@roadquiz.app to have it deleted.

The server also logs each request your app sends, with or without an account: the request's own identifier, what it asked for, the status of the answer and how long it took, but not your IP address. On the requests that need a session, such as downloading questions, syncing or the Tutor, the line also names your identifier. Each Tutor reply adds a line with the question, the conversation, the number of tokens and the cost, and never the text of a message. When RevenueCat reports a purchase event the server does not apply as usual, the log names the event, which Roadquiz's database links to your identifier. Bunny, which runs the server, keeps these logs for 5 days.

If you create an account

An account is optional. You create one with Apple, with Google or with a code sent to your email address. Roadquiz then keeps, linked to your account:

  • your email address, to sign you in;
  • your answers and mock exam results, so that they appear on all your devices;
  • your settings, such as the exam and licence you study for, the language of the questions, your reminders and your choice about statistics;
  • for each device you sign in on, its platform, the app version and when it was last used;
  • your purchases, so that they follow you to a new phone.

This data is stored in a database in Frankfurt, Germany.

The Tutor

The Tutor is available once you have made a purchase and signed in. When you send it a message, Roadquiz sends your message, the earlier messages and replies of the same conversation, the question, its explanation and your answer to Anthropic, the company that makes the Claude language model, which writes the reply.

Roadquiz keeps each Tutor conversation for 30 days and then deletes it, with its messages. It also counts the messages you send each day, to apply the daily limit.

Purchases

You pay through the App Store or Google Play: Apple or Google takes the payment, under its own terms and privacy policy. RevenueCat, the service Roadquiz uses to confirm purchases, receives the store's record of each purchase and the identifier of your app or account, and tells Roadquiz's server which purchases are active.

Roadquiz keeps a record of each purchase (the product, the store and whether it is active), linked to your identifier, so that the app and the Tutor know what you have unlocked.

Usage statistics

The app sends TelemetryDeck, an analytics service hosted in the EU, a small set of events, such as a finished mock exam or the opening of the unlock screen. It never sends your individual answers. The identifier that goes with the events is pseudonymous rather than anonymous: it is salted and hashed on your device, and TelemetryDeck states that its server hashes it again. TelemetryDeck stores no IP address, and no cookies are used.

Statistics are on when you install the app. To turn them off, open Settings in the app and switch off Share anonymous usage data.

This website counts page views with TelemetryDeck too: one event per page load, with no cookies and nothing stored in your browser. A visitor is recognised only by a hash of the IP address, the browser's user agent and a salt that changes every day, so a visit cannot be linked to another day's. Because the site sets no cookies, it has no cookie banner.

Crash reports

When the app or Roadquiz's server hits an error, a report goes to Sentry, an error monitoring service; the app's reports go to Sentry's EU region. Reports carry none of your content: no answers and no Tutor messages. They carry neither your Roadquiz identifier nor your account, but each report from the app carries a random identifier that Sentry's software makes for your installation. A report from the server about the Tutor or a purchase can name the question, the conversation or the purchase event it concerns, which Roadquiz's database links to your identifier.

How long data is kept

  • Tutor conversations: 30 days, then they are deleted with their messages.
  • Account data: as long as the account exists. Deleting the account deletes it.
  • The IP address and user agent of a session: until the session ends, as described above.
  • The server's request logs: 5 days.
  • The identifier the app creates before you sign in: nothing deletes it automatically, even when you sign in or delete your account.
  • Data on your device: until you uninstall the app.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account from inside the app at any time: open Account and tap Delete account. This deletes the account, the answers and mock exams stored online and your Tutor conversations. The progress on your device and the purchases in your store account stay, and you can restore the purchases. The support page shows each step.

Deleting the account does not delete the record RevenueCat keeps of your purchases, or the identifier the app used before you signed in, with the purchase events Roadquiz received for it. To have them deleted, write to support@roadquiz.app.

Your rights

You can ask Roadquiz for a copy of your personal data, and ask it to correct the data, to delete it, or to stop a use of it that you object to. Write to support@roadquiz.app. You can also complain to the data protection authority of the country where you live.
